Lebbon joins the BMR Academy for 2017
One of Britain’s brightest karting talents, Tom Lebbon has joined the ever-growing BMR Academy program for the 2017 season. Since making the move to race Mini X30 with Team BMR Tom has been one of the fastest drivers in this new class. The TMJ, Makita & Bennet's backed driver is now set for his best season to date.

Having started karting at the age of eight Tom has always been one to watch. Tom first began karting at the age of eight as he was always interested in motorsport. His early years of karting were spent with another team, fine-tuning his driving skills before switching to Team BMR for 2017. Since making the switch Tom has improved in all areas from race craft to outright pace. His first win of the 2017 season came in emphatic fashion at Whilton Mill in March. Whilton Mill is renowned for being one of the most competitive club championships in the UK with a grid of top drivers. For the third round of the championship Tom was the driver to beat throughout the weekend. In the final he went on to take a dominant victory, setting fastest lap on his way to winning by a margin of over six seconds.

“Tom’s ability to absorb information is what I have found my impressive. His attention to detail is something that really sets him out from a lot of drivers. He has tremendous pace and is certainly one to watch this season. I really do think that he has a long future in motorsport.”

Árón Taylor-Smith – BMR Academy Director

Tom’s calendar sees him focusing on PFI, Kimbolton and Whilton Mill club meetings but also competing in the nation’s most competitive champions, the LGM tour. The LGM travels the length and breadth of the UK and attracts the nation’s best drivers. The championship kicked off in April at PFI and as expected Tom was on superb form. Navigating his way through the heats with a trio of top seven finishes meant that Tom lined up for the final in fourth. Unfortunately luck was not on his side as he wasn’t able to capitalise on his starting position. However, the second round of the championship is on the 28th of May at GYG and once again Tom is expected to be one of the front-runners while representing BMR, Credo Fiance, Merrick Hill and Sept LTD.

“I’ve always been a big fan of the BTCC and obviously BMR are one the best teams in the championship. When the opportunity came about to join the BMR Academy with Árón I jumped at it as I really wanted to be a part of the BTCC team. I’ve already spent a few days down at their workshop to see their touring cars and use their simulator. I’m really excited to be part of the academy”

Throughout the 2017 season Tom will benefit from the expertise of the championship winning BTCC team.  The BMR Academy will focus on all aspects that are required to become a professional racing driver, ranging from simulator work, fitness & nutrition, PR & Media and driver tuition. The program is structured to allow Tom to have the possible chance to succeed through the ranks of motorsport.
